Mortgage works out 5.5% of our combined take home pay - but we've lived in the same house for 17 years....0

Mine is currently only 17.2% because of low interest rates but I am actually putting the extra money aside for emergency funds/overpaying so I am really paying 30%. I don't want to struggle if the rates go up again. That is from a single income.0

If all goes to plan (fingers crossed!) mine will be 32% of take home pay (buying alone). Its high, but figured the first few years would be and I am lucky in that I can work extra when I choose to for extra cash on a month to month basis (not included in above take home pay - and all above board tax-wise!). Im mid 30s.
I think most people under 40 will have higher percentages. Unless of course like Tancred you want a posh house!

Mortgage, 23% of income, living alone.
I'm quite suprised at the low figures on here also, I thought mine was good! I was a first time buyer with a 30% deposit saved almost exactly 2 years ago now. Mostly to keep the monthly payments low as I was buying on my own so it needed to be affordable on a single income below the national average.This is WAY more fun than monopoly.0 -
