To tip or not?

I'm not sure if i'm posting this in the right section. I've been treated to a back massage at our local beauty salon and it will be my first ever ( 50th birthday present )
My question is: what is the etiquette for tipping. The massage cost £30, should I tip the therapist or not, I don't want to get it wrong and feel embarrassed.
Thank you

Personal choice.
I go for a regular massage at my local college. Always book a deep tissue massage, if the girls go deep enough I tip, if they don't, I don't.
I know it's harder work doing a deep tissue massage, but I don't want them to think it's being done right by tipping them if that makes sense.4 Stones and 0 pounds or 25.4kg lighter :j0 -
If you can, then yes - you would be shocked if you knew how little most therapists get paid (salon owners and private therapists earn well) and it is a physically demanding and tiring job.
I used to do it but barely made back the money it cost me to train as I had to give up due to my back aching after doing a massage0 -
I may be wrong but I believe it's standard to tip approx 10% of the total bill in UK. The only time I don't tip is in restaurants where a 'service charge' is added to the bill.
I use the local college for hair, facials etc., the students always ask if I'm happy with the way they do something. If I'm not happy with it, I'll say so politely. I tip them as I do everyone else, as I appreciate their eagerness to please.0 -
I have never been to a beauty salon but I do put a pound in the hairdressers hand - then pay for my cut by card. They usually all have a little money box for tips. The secret to success is making very small, yet constant changes.:)0

Hi, Martin’s asked me to post this in these circumstances: I’ve asked Board Guides to move threads if they’ll receive a better response elsewhere (please see this rule) so this post/thread has been moved to another board, where it should get more replies. I will probably sound mean but I wouldn't tip as I don't get tipped for doing my job so why should I pay extra and tip other people for doing theirs? I am assuming they are being paid by their employer? I don't feel it is up to me to subsidise that.0

£30 for a massage is on the lower side, most charge closer to double so if the massage is good (and only if!) I'd tip.0

I usually tip about 10% of the price0
