According to recent data from the Council of Mortgage Lenders, the
number of first-time buyers increased by 3pc in February, marking the best
start to a year since 2008.
First-time buyers accounted for 43pc of all house purchase loans in
February, the sixth consecutive month that this indicator has been at
or above 40pc.
Mortgage availability is
easing for those with modest deposits for the first time in several
years, with lenders lowering rates on a regular basis.
Whether one is bearish or bullish on house prices, surely we all can agree this is excellent news!

So first time buyer have been saving longer and getting there, I thought that was impossible? or does it shoe the current rules are fine now people have got use to the idea.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

The article was about FTB's with low deposits (5-10%) getting access to less punitive rates, Percy.0

I hate to admit it, but if I were a priced out wannabe FTB I would grasp this help to buy scheme with both hands and vigorously pump it for all I were worth until the sticky helpfulness erupted all over me to the gleeful salacious jeers of Cleggeron and Osborne.
It is vile, ultimately counter productive, and again forcing average people to exploit themselves for a crumb of belonging in this transient, divided, and miserable country we are becoming; but it is at least -something; as it is becoming apparent that no government will allow even a hint of affordable housing.0 -

But they are impossible to get... apparently, so the rate means nothing.Have my first business premises (+4th business) 01/11/2017

What proof is there that this person is in a fact a FTB?
I think you just made that bit up."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....

There was an article last week on how new build prices have risen 12% in the last 5 years.
This was being reported as a good result, as older properties had only risen 7%.
The article (which was in the guardian no less) almost salivated over the fact that landlords, first time buyers and downsizers are all competing for the same type of property which is putting prices up.
They then went on to explain how new build starts were at some of their lowest levels on records, only pushing prices up further.
Of course, they explored how the government schemes were "helping" the prices of such houses in relation to their peers (older houss). They then went on to state (just after stating starts are at some of their lowest ever) the hope is that house builders, who are making record profits, will build some more houses.
And that's in the caring, sharing, concerned guardian. The media has little appetite to be promoting anything other than price rises = good. Though it does shed a litle light sometimes, dependant on who who lose out.0 -

Maybe because it says "First time buyer Charlotte Ashton" under the pic?
If you still have doubts, I suggest you write to the Telegraph.0 -
She looks a bit old to be a FTB, maybe she just had a tough paper round trying to save the deposit?0

Thank goodness there are still principled people who will not cross the picket line of the First Time Buyer's Strike.0

Doesn't show on the post."If you act like an illiterate man, your learning will never stop... Being uneducated, you have no fear of the future.".....
