Npw that I have sorted out my landline calls with the above numbers,my next question is, can I register my two PAYG mobile phones, (networks are 02 and Tesco), and by using the access codes, make cheaper calls?

Why not? Just check the tariff details to see what times to use it.

For example, on the Tesco one, you could register the 0207 access as one of your 3 favourites. Or use on the O2 one when you're down to 5p a minute on the Talkalot tariff, and for x-net calls

    Hi Andy88

This looks interesting as we are changing to O2 soon with 100 free x-netwrok minutes - how would that work then?

From the inclusive x-net minutes, you could use 1899's 0207 number for access to cheap international calls.

But if you can dial 0844 and 0870 numbers from the inclusive minutes (which some O2 deals do, but check)) there is another, better, possibility - take a look at
    http://www.easy-dial.com/03_index.asp

Without the x-net bundle, or after using the minutes up, 1899 could also be used to make cheaper x-net calls by dialling 1899's 0207 number then the required number. It would cost the price of O2 minutes (25p dropping to 5 or 2p on talkalot) plus 1899's charge of 10p weekdays, 2p weekends.

Hope this is useful without being too confusing; ask if you want more detail

Thanks, I have registered the 0207 number as a favourite. Could I go one step further and prefix this number to the phone mumbers programmed into my mobile, or do you have to have a gap between the numbers dialled?

You need a gap, but that is possible. You need the pause character, which is obtained in different ways depending on the make of phone.

On Nokia, press * 3 times
On my old Motorola, hold down * for ~3 seconds
Others will be similar; look in the manual or experiment

Then enter 02070019696p07......... send or save

The pause lasts 3 seconds; you can use it other ways as well, like navigating menu systems that you know, maybe the ferry company etc, though you might not put your bank account number in in case the phone gets lost

Another possibility is to open the phonebook when the call connects; add + to the end of the 0207 number; + is * twice on Nokia, etc ie 02070019696+

Then you can either enter a number or press Search, then there will be an option something like Send DTMF

Some SIMs do not like long numbers so you may have to save on the phone memory
  • I am unable to contact call18866 as each time I try to log on I am told there is a Fatal Error. I have been using this number since I read about it on MMT and my phone bills have dropped dramatically. Is there a problem on this site?

Some people seem to have problems viewing 18866 if they are using IE and have shifted to Firefox as a browser. I use Firefox and have never had a problem.

Is it just to view your bill? Interested to know what MMT is too? :D

It appears that even by nominating the "free" access number from my mobile which is a favourite number, Tesco are still charging me 10p per minute and 1899 are charging a 3p connection charge, so I might as well not use 1899 from my mobile.
