Dip in Garden - Advise needed please

Would be grateful for some advise. Football has now been banned from my garden due to several holes in the fence :eek: Now I can actually put some plants in it The middle of the garden has a dip in it and I wondered what I could do to even it out. I am not a gardener by any means but am looking forward to be finally able to have a plant filled garden and am keen to learn.

I think it graduates to about 5 inches

If this hole is in really clay soil or heavy loam (dries to a cracked surface in really hot weather, and hard to dig, or alternatively slimes and sticks together when fisted or squeezed) then you may wish to add compost and dig in to alleviate the cold and damp which will assail this part from time to time dependent on weather. As it is only 5inches it may not be too much of a problem if dry or sandy soil, and may indeed be of benefit if used for plants prefering more moisture, yet again adding compost to help this benefit.

Generally all variances will in time be erradicated or reduced to some extent with cultivation. Good luck in turning this plot to use.
