Good morning

Please can I ask for some advice?

I have just managed to get my credit report from Noodle - not pleasant reading as I have a very very low score but it has also confused me.

I have old debt that has been paid through a DMP from CCCS but the credit report does not list all of these cards. Some of those it does list show as 'satisfied' even though I am still paying these through the DMP. Another shows as Cabot so I am assuming that one debt has been sold - this shows as a default even though payments are being made via the DMP.

Do I contact the CCCS for advise or do I contact the relevant companies - I need to get up to date balances of outstanding amounts so that I can get a clearer plan to improve my credit score.

thankyou

Thank you - I did understand that the score is taken in combination with other criteria. However I would still appreciate some advice about the following:

    1. the debt that appears to have been sold on to Cahot, I have not had any communication from them at all and dont know which debt was purchased by them. Payments have been made via the DMP but it is still listed as a default - is this right?

    2. Some of the other debts show as satisfied not default but again payments are still being paid to these. Does this mean that there is still outstanding balances?

I need to start to look at the outstanding balances but not sure where to start. I would like to get a mortgage on my home in the future as there is lots of maintenance work that needs to be completed.

    Many thanks

Hi there, well done on facing up to this and trying to fix it.

    1. It might be right. Obviously a DMP payment could be below the threshold as set out in your Consumer Credit Agreement with the creditor in question. Therefore despite paying off the debt (albeit at a reduced rate) you might technically be in default. My suggestion would be that you write to cabot and ask them for the CCA as well as the deed of transfer or assignment order or whatever gives them the right to be listed as a creditor, and also a genuine copy of the default notice as you don't recall having recieved this.

    2. This is one which I struggled with myself, writing to these companies to enquire as to the status is the way forward.

I don't know if you still are on the DMP, there may be something in your agreement with them whereby you need to go through them in order to get this information. Check with CCCS first, then write to the companies in question and effectively go through the 'prove it' letter stage with them (although that's not quite right of course, but you're asking for the same information).
Debt free, moved, got new stuff for the new flat - got everything I wanted and need - now just saving.
  • Thank you for the information Trajal. do you know if there are any template letters that I could copy regarding the CCA letter?

I am not sure whether to write or to leave the other accounts alone - will it be like stirring up trouble by writing to them?

Can I ask what you mean by a 'prove it' type of letter?

Another possibility is that you defaulted before entering your DMP.

I've found that Noodle scores are lower than Experian and don't know of any company that uses Noodle. It has its uses obviously but don't worry too much.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.
  • Thank you for the extra information - I have checked out my Equifax credit report and I am now really confused - although it does not take much to do this where money/debt is concerned!!:o

    1. Cabot debt - show as start date 1996 and default date 2007. I have not had any dealings with this company but it does appear from my statement from Step Change that Barclaycard must have sold my debt to them. The entry on the credit report simply says default and does not show the payments made every month through the DMP although the balance is now less than the original default amount.

    2. NatWest - I had overdraft which was cleared some time ago and this shows as settled. But I also had a CC with NatWest that I am still making payments on through the DMP but it shows as Settled on the report!?

    3. I also had a CC with Tesco with a large balance and this does not show at all on the credit report but I have made consistent payments through the DMP.

    4. As above - I had a CC with Egg but again this does not show up on the Credit report. Regular payments have been made through the DMP.

Please can anyone advise if I should contact Cabot to ask why they are not showing that I am making regular payments to the account as it looks from their entry that I have paid nothing since 2007?

    Many thanks
