Life/Health Insurance vs Income Protection

I’m in my early 40’s and have been self–employed for 13 years. In 2005 I bought a ‘buy to let’ flat as an investment. I was told I had to have Life Insurance and or Health Insurance by the estate agent.
I opted for independent advise to find the best policy and I ended up with Life and Health Insurance for a fixed rate of £35 a month with Bupa.
But I am not married and have no children and now I wonder if this was the best type of Insurance to have?
Would Income Protection have been better?
Was I given the wrong advice?
