advice on moorcroft/halifax settlements

Hi everyone this is my first post, i hope you can be of help. i have just left a DMP with CCCS/Step change. I have 2 payday loanS and a Co-op Bank debt totalling £910 which i intend to pay off in the next few days once the letters arrive stating exactly whats left to pay.
i was on a DMP for 3 years but i decided it was time to deal with it myself after my circumstances changed i.e more money coming due to house move.
i will be dealing with my biggest creditor halifax credit card and i curently owe them £4561 this debt started out as £5175 and i have paid to date £1200, clearly charges or fees have been applied somewhere down the line, moorcroft are currently collecting the money, they have told me they dont own the debt, i am wanting to begin negotiations to arrive at a settlement figure, they have offered me 3650 but that this wont count as full settlement of my credit report, further they have told me it will be halifax who report in the end to my credit report?
someone at moorcroft also told me it was impossible and illegal to report a partial clearing of the debt as fully paid?
are these statements true?
i feel it is important to end with all the debts to end with fully paid status? as i want to own my own home at some point in the near future.

any thoughts would be gretaly appreciated

Marcus

I think you need to make them an offer. They are clearly open to a deal.

It's not impossible/illegal to mark a debt settled by F&F as settled but the ICO has said that the normal mark is partially settled.

The original creditor will be responsible for marking your file as they still own the debt.

Many thanks for the reply, is there any value/possibility in trying to deal direct with Halifax as opposed to dealing with the DCA?

Update for anyone in a similar position trying to bypass the DCA when the debt has NOT been sold. Halifax will not entertain negotiating when they have passed the debt on to a DCA.

Yes, I think that's true. If they have appointed a collector, they expect you to negotiate through them. It shouldn't make a lot of difference.
