Pay it back ASAP & get him out of your life.

I'd be keeping the petrol money and that £100 he stole from you, and make him wait as long as possible for the balance. That's if you can tolerate his harassment in the meantime. Of which there will be plenty, I am sure.0

If you have a right to the money then keep it...if you dont have a right to the money return it..
If the boot was on the other foot how would you feel if you forgot to cancel your standing order to him and he decided to keep your money?
Return it in a timely manner perhaps minus the money he owes you for petrol.frugal October...£41.82 of £40 food shopping spend for the 2 of us!
2017 toiletries challenge 179 out 145 in ...£18.64 spend0 -
On reflection, it seems odd that he has made a mistake like that. Maybe he has no bank himself now or the money will be lost in fees if he puts it into his own account. Could be a way of getting his money intact. he must know you for an honest person so will know he will get his money back.
Ask him about the money he owes you and see his reaction.0 -

I read it that he had a standing order from his own account to their joint account that he forgot to cancel, so it would have come from his account in the first place.Accept your past without regret, handle your present with confidence and face your future without fear0 -
I know I have a right to the money but I've decided I don't want anything to do with him anoymore so I will be returning it tomorrow.0

If it was me I would pay the money back as soon as possible. Keeping any of it would just mean more contact between you both. I would much rather pay it all back and not hear from him again0

Sounds like the right choice to me. Will give you a clean break from him0 -

OK, sorry, missed that bit.0 -
I think there are two ways you could go about it.
I would either send him all the money back as he sounds like hard work and it gives you the clean break it sounds like you desperately need,
OR
Do what the other poster said. Text or ring him stating that you feel you are owed the £100 that HE said he would not take and did, ask him if he agrees and keep what is owed to you.
Personally, I certainly wouldn't keep the whole amount. It's always darkest before the dawn.
