Required Information For Car Insurance

i got online insurance from esure . they have now written to me saying they will cancel my policy if they do not get a photographic drivers license . i still have the old style one that i am going to replace in the next year . what law says they can demand this ? i checked on the dvla website which says you need a license to drive but not to insure . so what law are they using ?

Have you asked them if you can just supply a copy of your paper license? It can't be that unusual a situation - paper licenses are still valid.

They are not relying on the law, but you will have told them you have a valid UK license as part of the sales process, and they are entitled to validate this information - but that shouldn't mean you have to provide information you don't have.

They will be relying on contract law regarding you supplying them a copy of your licence, but cannot demand this to be a photo licence.
