I just pay £26 manually each month. The DD is there in case I forget (unlikely) or I become incapacitated for one month.

What is the point in doing it manually? Why not just let the DD (set for £26) do it itself?

Usually when people do this it's because they don't necessarily want to make the payment from the same account every time...but are prepared to accept the consequences (charges, debit interest, etc) if the DD is claimed and takes them overdrawn.

I reckon that's true in some cases ... but in most, it's that people don't realise that you can generally set a DD for any amount (or any percentage of the balance) that you choose.

It's only that some people on here have suggested that it's worth paying an extra pound or so to avoid getting minimum payment markers on your credit file. My impression is that the majority think this isn't necessary with 0% deals but I would rather not take the chance for the sake of a pound a month.

I have never ever found it a problem me getting further credit by only paying the min amount. Also on my credit report it does say whether I am on a promotional rate or not to the respective credit card organization.

Perhaps if someone only paid the min amount and it wasn't on a promotional offer then that possibly may make a difference.

You can pay a set amount by d/d, it doesn't have to be minimum or full. IIRC I did mine via online banking.

Can you set a percentage? i.e., "I want to pay 50% of the balance", or perhaps "I want to pay 50% of the balance, unless the outstanding amount is £100 or less, in which case I want to pay in full".

It sounds like a pretty simple question, but I suspect it's difficult or impossible to get the bank to do it, since most banks still seem to use MS-DOS...

Well because I'm going to go over £2500 balance (still on 0%) soon so I'd have to pay more anyway.

For my BT card I have "set it and forgot it" to min+£1, since the min payment now and the final min payment in 2 years will differ by £5.

    I wish!

I'd love a: pay £1 above the minimum payment option

I just set up a standing order for £1 to go out on the same day as the Direct Debit, then I don't have to think about it. Got 15 months left of 0%.

I can't log in at the moment, but when you log in, I think theres a tab that says account manager --> other services.
In there you can change how much gets taken by direct debit.

A fixed percentage or fixed amount is usually ok (although they'll automatically take the minimum for you if the %/amount you choose is less than the min).
