1% charge to solicitor on estate

My father's estate been concluded - just had the solicitors account & he includes (on top of his hourly charges) a cost calculated pursuant to the value of the estate which is calculated at about 1% of total - then vat on top of everything. Is this standard ?

Thanks as ever

Yes it's quite normal and valid. Not all solicitors do it so it's not 'standard' though

Quite normal, and less than many charge.

It is part of the normal way solicitors charge for dealing with estates .... an hourly rate, plus a percentage of the value. The charging structure should have been made clear to you when the solicitor was instructed.

A very good reason not to use a solicitor for estates if at all possible.
