Have they told her to avoid all fat in her diet until she has the op. By all, I mean all!0

Yes, she has just been eating dry bread and things like that.
She is taking Co-codamol and it's making her just sleep and feel dizzy.
The insurance we have was taken out with her known condition, she wasn't on a list for surgery at the time, but she is now. We quoted with the circumstances as they are now and it will cost us £75.00 extra.
She is saying she will see how she feels the day before and then we can go from there.
I'm very worried and don't know what to do. My father and his wife are very keen for us to go, both are medical professionals and do not see a problem - my issue is that you do not have medication that you can take with you - well not IV medication that was needed the last few days.
To be honest we know she isn't really going to get worse and we know they won't need to take them out when she is there. But we do know that she may need IV pain relief or something stronger prescribed - because she couldn't cope for the two times this week she was admitted to hospital - it's been the first time this week that it got this bad.
I wish I had never agreed to go on holiday with a group, as we will certainly ruin the holiday as it was planned around us, for us and to be with us!!! My luck hey TUT.
Thanks all0 -
I have had this and had my gallbladder out and further pain when on holiday - managed without going to hospital I also had further gallstones years later and without the IV drugs in the hospital was screaming in paid. It can turn chronic in which case they will book her into hospital for the surgery straight away. You really dont want to have her doubled up screaming in pain and scared to go to hospital due to cost when on holiday, or end up paying a fortune for private care. If your insurance decides that you knowing about her having gallstones was a pre-excisting condition you didnt mention on your insurance when booking you could lose the cost of the holiday. Either decide to go yourself with the kids or discuss with insurance what you can claim back. Knowing how fast it can turn bad I wouldnt recommend she go on holiday till after the surgeryNeeding to lose weight start date 26 December 2011 current loss 60 pound Down. Lots more to go to get into my size 6 jeans0

If she wants to go, she needs to ask her GP or consultant if she is well enough to travel, they will need to put it in writing to satisfy the insurance company, and the company given enough time to assess the new information.
I think it is possible she may not be covered if it all goes pear shaped while away if she doesn't let the insurer know that she's got worse.
Really not worth taking the chance. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0 -
Some points to consider...
* No claim for cancellation is valid until a doctor declares that the patient is medically unfit to travel. By the sounds of what you are saying, I doubt that they are well enough. However, it should be the doctors decisions which influences your cancellation.
* Irrespective of who booked the holiday, insurance companies cover those named on their insurance certificates. So, for example, if you had booked the trip but it was another member of your party who has become ill and is subsequently cancelling, if they have separate insurance to yourself they will need to claim their costs back from their insurance company.
* If you travel abroad in the knowledge of a condition that could potentially lead to a claim i.e you travel to portugal knowing you have gall stones before you go, you get ill and you rack up a €5000 bill, your insurance company will not cover this. Unless, of course, you have called them to declare the condition and they have accepted.0 -
Well quick update, we did travel and we are there now! :-)
All has been well and we only have 2 days left, so if we had to go home immediately it wouldn't be so bad!
The insurance were aware of the condition as we had to tell them at the start. We called them and updated them on the situation for which they charged a further £29.00 so we are covered.
So I'm glad we came in the end and thanks to all for advice. I can appreciate why it could go both ways :-)0
