Hello people, need to ask what is most likely a stupid question.

My initial period on my mortgage is 5 years which im a bit over 3 years into. Are you strictly locked into the whole 5 years before you can move onto a better deal? Currently my rate is 5.95 so was hoping to get a better deal as I have been paying above what I need to monthly.

You can remortgage to a better deal but you will be hit by an early repayment charge. It is most likely a percentage of the loaned amount and the repayment of any cashback received: do check your contract. Do your sums, you may still be better off on a cheaper deal, you may not...
