Painting kitchen cupboards

Afternoon all, we have cream kitchen cupboards and on two of them the 'plastic' covering had started to peel so I decided (much against the DH's wishes) I have peeled the plastic off the worst door. It is an mdf door underneath and am wondering if anyone here has ever peeled the plastic off and painted the doors underneath?

If so what did you use and how did it turn out?

I have attached some pictures so you can see what I mean.

if you can get all the covering of and take it back to the mdf then that would be the way to go , i would give it a coat of thinned (10% ) bullseye 123 , give it a light sand down with a 240 grade paper , recoat , then give it 2 coats of something like dulux w/b satinwood ,
