My onions have blown over!

It's the first time I'm growing veg and need some advice about my onions. They are overwintered ones and the green foliage was all upright until about a week ago. They've all blown over in the wind so most of the stalks are now lying across my plot rather than standing up tall as they were before. Is it normal for this to happen or should I be supporting them?

I have never grown overwintered onions but I know that onions do fall down like this when they are ripe. It could be that the warm spring we had has ripened them earlier than usual, if so the foliage will begin to turn yellow and dry. On the other hand, if you have had windy weather recently, that could be the cause in which case they should perk up soon. I have not heard of suppoting onion leaves as they grow though!

Thanks, I'll just leave them be I think and see how they get on. The leaves are still green so I don't think they are ready yet.

leave them as they are. They will be fine and the leaves will naturally lay down when they are ready - not yet though. Mine are still going great guns - they are Japanese sets planted last year and overwintered too. So don't worry.

Yep my over wintered ones are drooping as well but I read they shouldn't be ready till June?

My first attempt at growing onions so am curious as to what they will be like.
