British Gas Usuage estimates

Hi

I need some advise please.

I have recently elected to go dual fuel with Powergen and I have just recieved a bill from BG

10 Jan 07 I gave them a reading of 1159.

Their bill states reading of

12th Mar - 1520 = 361 units used over 60 days = 6.0166 per day (11400kwh)
26th Apr - 1714 = 194 units used over 45 days = 4.3111 per day(6126kwh)
26th Apr - 1717 = 3 units used over 1 day = 3 units per day.(95kwh)

I don't understand why they would choose to split 26th Apr into 2 rates for each of the above represents price decrease points.

However my meter reading today is 1588.

Not bad business if you can get it.

So i owe them 1588 - 1159 - no problem here except I don't know what my usuage would have been at 26th April. I believe I need to know this so that I can correctly monitor the new bill they will produce for me.

Hopefully the above is enough info for those in the know here to help me approach BG in a precise and fair manner.

If you don't know, BG won't know either.

The simplest thing would be to write to them with your current reading(1588) and give them your estimate of the readings on 12 March & 26th April.(I assume the 12 March reading of 1520 was also BG's estimate?)

I would couch it the following term of "the readings on 12 March/26 April were ----"

Provided it is a reasonable estimate BG will probably those readings.

It isn't going to make a huge difference in your bill one way or the other(i.e. the reading on the price decrease dates) The important thing is today's reading.

What date did your switch to your new provider go through? It wasn't the 26th April by any chance?

If your switch has gone through, you can send BG readings until you are blue in the face, but it is actually your new supplier (Powergen) needs to send (or re-send) the changeover read to British Gas.

I haven't completed switch yet but my latest bill does seem to suggest they may have info I am about to. However, and I'll let you know soon, I am expecting a call back today. Firstly I have been offered reduced tariff rate (just on standard rate - prior to coming to this website)from 10 Jan - 13 May 2007, also I am saying my usuage should be 244,131 instead of 361,194 for 10/1 - 12/3 and 12/3 - 26/4. I hope I am going to get away with this but it's mainly because I was treated so poorly by BG in Jan 07 when they sent me a telemessage threatening warrants, police etc. All I had done was give them a meter reading which in turn produced a bill. This bill was produced 1 month after my then latest quarterly bill. I complained and was told to ignore the bill. It ended up with this nasty telemessage. BG gave me £120 compensation and suggested I moved tariff to click energy. The guy I spoke to at the time said he would arrange everything, but he did not.

I trust Powergen are able to be just as poor when it comes to customer services although I must say if you phone 01753 494000 for BG the people you talk to certainly take on board situations.

    Hi

I have been sorted out in a prompt fashion. I am actually considering cancelling my Powergen move.

The reason being is that by using the above number I am able to get things done really quickly.

Just ask for John Symes (you may not get through to him, but the department he works for are really on the ball). It is for high level customer complaints, but I am sure anyone that needs to complain would consider that their case was high level.

I had a really high bill. The bill was based around usuage of 17621 kwh in 106 days (I live on my own in 3 bed house). Actual usage was 13547 kwh over 123 days. They were originally trying to charge me average of 2.765p per kwh (i've stupidly been on standard tariff). Under the circumstance I was offered the opportunity of having the whole bill changed to a cheaper tariff and I have now just paid an average of 2.4p per kwh.

Okay, I'll still save money when I actually do move to Powergen, but it was nice to get 10% discount of gas I've already used just for being over-billed and messed about a bit.

But those with BG should certainly try 01753 494000 route if they are having problems.
