Trouble with a company

Hello,
My OH was... encouraged to sign up to a course with Train2Game. I didn't find out until after he had signed. This was well over a year ago, and because I don't live with my OH I on't know the full story, so please don't ask for it
What I would like to seek help with, is where I can point my man to get help. He says he has debt collectors calling him and he sounds worried. He never sounds worried, and so this worries me.
Basically he signed for a course, to take 3 years and cost 5k or so. I decided he didn't want to do it, returned the materials and didn't pay anything after the deposit which he has accepted he won't get back, that is what deposits are for after all.
He says that he was pressured into signing, wasn't given time to think etcetc. And the company seems to have a lot of bad press on the internet for this exact reason.
I have told him to make an appointment with the CAB, but what should I suggest to him that he says to the CAB?
What must he arm himself with, knowledge-wise, to try and make the best of this awful situation?
I'm sorry if this is the wrong place to put this, I wasn't really sure
You know now as much as I know. He has no other debt, and he's working hard now (he finally managed to find work). It would be devastating if just when he thinks he's left all the rubbish behind he gets this lumped on him. I don't know enough to advise him
Thank you

OMG no sorry omg that's a terrible typo!
Nono, HE decided he didn't want to do it. This is nothing about our relationship, I'm just looking for what advice I can give him0 -
I don't know if any of the information in this thread is relevant to yuor case, it might be worth a read http://webcache.googleusercontent.com/search?q=cache:rQ1iNaK0g9EJ:forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.php%3Ft%3D4210945+&cd=4&hl=en&ct=clnk&gl=uk0

Thank you very much
I have sent that thread over to my OH to read. He just wants to be armed with as much knowledge as he can be before he goes into the CAB, so if he's got examples of other people who've had the same trouble then that's brilliant! Thank you so much
He might even bump into this post if he's looking... if so, hello babe0 -

Lol! I was so embarrassed when I read your post! You must have though OH WOW, Drama queen here! Lets get the popcorn and let the "discussion" begin!
I think at least it has entertained :rotfl:
On a side note, OH has just come back to me linking the following: http://www.legislation.gov.uk/ukpga/1974/39/section/75
And asking me if it makes any sense. Which it doesn't... I don't suppose anyone has any link to somewhere that puts it in... plain, easy to read English? :S0 -
OK, it is consumer rights
Basically, he is stuck unless he has a statutory right to cancel (eg if he signed up off suppliers premises) or a right to cancel in the T&Cs. But probably his right to cancel was long expired by the time he actually did.
If it is a straightforward contract, and the supplier fails to supply, then he could cancel after giving the supplier a fair opportunity to correct the breach. But usually these contracts are back to back with a loan contract - so he has effectively paid in full up front and he is responsible for paying the loan in full.
His best bet is to see if the lender will take an offer of full and final settlement, but my bet is that they will be very resistant to this. You might as well ask the Wizard of Oz to give you a big number as pay a Credit Referencing Agency for a so-called 'credit-score'0 -
Ouch
They came to his house. The guy had him in his bedroom, using his computer to show him bookmarks of where he could check up on the thing.
It's disgusting, how can people be like that. He gave him 2 days to think about it, and then when he came back said sign up now or you won't be able to because he's moving to a different area.
It's so unfair!
Well, I will say to OH to go to CAB and get some advice on what can be done. TBH, I'd rather spend 5k hammering these *insert rude words here* than give it to them. If the choice is 5k to them or 5k on trying to show them up for being rude high-pressure salesmen who don't seem to care about actual people... I know what I'd choose
But, I'm not the one doing this so the decision is up to OH and now he has a lot more knowledge than he did earlier this morning and so he can make an informed decision.
Thanks again for your help, I'll let you know what the outcome is if anyone is interested.
