Credit Reference Agencies

Hi all,

I have read in a few posts that experian are not a good credit reference agency..

Just wondering who I should register with? (if infact any are repuatable or who is the best of a bad bunch?)

I have just started paying all my debt and want to check it is being registered on my credit file as the balances going down?

Thanks

In some people's opinion. No evidence to suggest that it is more than a tiny sample size of unhappy people.
  • So would you recommend them then?

Your data is automatically reported to credit reference agencies based on account details. Experian are the most widely used by lenders so makes sense to use them. Would also be good practice to get an Equifax report in a few months too.

DO NOT GO ANYWHERE NEAR THEIR CREDIT SCORE OFFERS - THEY ARE A WASTE OF MONEY.

Also bear in mind that payments to accounts are not updated on credit files in real time - it can take up to 6 weeks for your lenders to report their data based on reporting cycles.

Also if you have any questions when you get your report, feel free to post them in this thread.
  • Thankyou :)

Any other info that they gave when saying that?
Have you called them and asked what the next steps are?
Have they asked for proof of address?
Are you on the electoral roll at your current address?
Have you changed your name recently or been known by other names?
Are your accounts registered to your current address?
Have you applied for credit at your current address?
Do you have a National Insurance number?

From my own experience of Experian, I would advise the following. Their information comes in part from what you provide and in part from what the companies provide. It should show on your account that the amount of available credit you are using is going down. It should also show a payment being made each month to the relevant companies. It will also help you to see if you accidentally have a rolling late payment anywhere- which can happen especially with credit cards (eg payment due 20th of month you pay on 21st each month).

The score you have is likely to fluctuate. It is difficult to tell why this is particularly if your circumstances haven't changed.

Make sure you are registered to vote at your current address, a landline may help but not much, also check that all accounts are now showing linked to your current address only except closed accounts.

finally check you have no incorrect financial associations.
Paid off the last of my unsecured debts in 2016. Then saved up and bought a property. Current aim is to pay off my mortgage as early as possible. Currently over paying every month. Mortgage due to be paid off in 2036 hoping to get it paid off much earlier. Set up my own bespoke spreadsheet to manage my money.

The score is utterly worthless and misleading! Ignore ignore ignore as per my earlier post.
