Not on electoral register

I am guessing when applying for a mortgage that you have to be on electoral register.
Can anyone tell me if you have to be on it for so long or can you just get put on electoral register 1 day and apply for mortgage straight away.
For 1 reason or another I have never been on electoral register.

It takes the council time to update the register so no, you can't add yourself and expect it to show the day afterwards for credit referencing purposes.0

Yes, typically it will cause issues if you aren't on the electoral role and have been resident at your home for more than 3 mths or so - unless there is a very good reason why you have not yet got round to it.
Its worth noting that its an offence punishable by fine, not to be on the electoral role (regardless of whether you wish to vote of not) - so may be an idea to get yourself on asap regardless of any future mge application.
Hope this helps
