Graham Devon strikes back against the punctuation police....

The apostrophe is being banned from street names in parts of Devon to "avoid potential confusion".
Graham Devon, from the council, said there was "no national guidance that stop's apostrophe's being used. It give's me great pleasure to implement these measure's"
Forum proofreader Chewmylegoff from Ashburton said the thought of apostrophes being removed made him "shudder".
"It's almost as though somebody with a giant eraser is literally trying to erase punctuation from our consciousness," he told BBC News.
Bakers View in Newton Abbot is named after Sir Samuel White Baker. He said there was something "terribly British and terribly reassuring" about well-written and well-punctuated writing.
"Some may say I should get a life and get out more, but if I got out more and saw place names with no apostrophes where there should be, I shudder to think how I'd react," he added.

Maybe this development needs to be reported to the Apostrophe Protection Society:

Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0 -
I think the local council here must have decided against apostrophes at some point - and replaced the street signs (although a few got missed). I think it is pretty ridiculous, and if it was down to me the apostrophes would be reinstated.0

Apostrophes? Pah!
Speaking as a resident of Mid Devon, I can confirm that the Council's relaxed attitude simply mirrors the way of life here.
So long as you're not hurting children, beating women or into sheep abuse, you can pretty much do what you like in this last bastion of un-gentrified country living.
Butts Lane or Butt's Lane, we don't care!0 -
Will that be the end of Westward Ho! then?0

Will that be the end of Westward Ho! then?
No. [STRIKE]Westward Hoe.... [/STRIKE] Sorry, that's something else altogether....Westward Ho! is in Torridge, where the council spends money like water on stuff like tourism and accommodating the whims of Damien Hirst. They aren't going to worry about savings on a few apostrophes or exclamation marks.
The real beauty of Mid Devon is that few people appear to know it exists, or if they do, exactly where it is.0
