Indeed - Chris Giles continues to be an apologist for Osborne.

It matters not one bit whether Giles or any other right wing economic commentator apologises for Osborne or not.

The spectacular failure of the coalition's economic policies to date speaks for itself.
Martin Woolf's description of the government's present policy as "indefensible" remains convincing.

    It is completely indefensible.

They will lose the next election because of it, and consign themselves to another generation out of power.

Osborne's pyrrhic victory of ideology over reality.

    And it's absolutely disgraceful.

As the thought of another decade or more of the big government, high tax, nanny state loving, and deeply illiberal Labour party at the helm makes me physically sick.

More haiku-style meaningless soundbites from the Thrugelmiser.

    :o

You could create a random pessimism generator and get much the same content.

Would someone like to explain what growth means.

And why it is good and necessary.

Man, this has turned into a dillusional left wing orgy - saying that the Tories have wrecked the economy (that in actual fact was wrecked before they got into power) and that the opposing power (who have yet to come out with any sort of economic policy) would be doing a better job.

The opposing party who on the one hand, is criticising the government for cutting too much, and then seconds later is highlighting that the government are spending too much. They dont even know which side to take in the arguement.

On the basis that "never argue with an idiot - they drag you down to their level and beat you with experience", im done with this discussion. Talk about talking to a brick wall.

Laura so true. When Cameron & Osborn first came into power with an austerity agenda, they were praised by many right wing pundits for making hard decisions. Now it's ending in shambles, they can't bring themselves to admit they were wrong....

Please - If the government’s plan is working, what would a failing one look like?
    How about Greece?

DOH - I didnt mean to reply. Now im done on this thread

    The opposite of a recession.

Increasing business activity, increasing employment, and increasing prosperity.
And why it is good and necessary.

    Seriously?

The next Government. I'm sure they'll make an equal (or worse) balls up than the current lot!

Because sane people prefer increasing business activity, increasing employment, and increasing prosperity to the opposite.

    Seriously?

Just borrowing and spending (wasting) money does not always produce the above.

Oddly enough, increasing activity does not always increase prosperity either.
