reliable flowers for May
Hello, I wonder if anyone can help?
Im getting married in May 2014 and I would really like to have a pot of home grown flowers on each table rather than a display of cut flowers ( partly to save money but also in a bid to be slightly environmentally friendly). Ideally I'd like some English country garden flowers, with a bit of height.
The idea is to grown the plants from plugs or seeds at a couple of locations ( our house, my mums etc), then at the time of the wedding the pots can be wrapped up in material and go on all the tables. After the wedding they can then be planted in the gardens of family and friends. Between us we have a greenhouse and a reasonable amount of green fingered knowledge! More veg related than flowers thou!
I've been doing some research into flowers that might be suitable for the job and ive come up with stocks, snap dragons and lily of the Valley.
Can anyone recommend some thing else? I was wondering if I might be able to use late flowering tulips? Or am I pushing it in early may? Alternatively would I be better off to by plants in the garden centre at this time next year and then bring them on?
Any thoughts or ideas would be greatly appreciated! Thanks for reading!
