If smooth lines mean more to you than rash manoeuvres, you might have what it takes to be our track day champion. The way it works is simple. Ten Top Gear readers (plus one guest each) will be selected to line up on the grid at Silverstone on June 18 to battle it out for the title of Wilkinson Sword Quattro Titanium Energy Driver of the Year.


The day will involve three stages:

1. Tuition at the wheel of Lotus Exige sports cars, learning how to shave precious 10ths off your lap times.
3. A lesson on Silverstone's specially designed rally stage
5. Learning the art of drift in a Caterham track car, the ultimate measure of car control

Entrants, and their nominated "mate" must have a full UK driving licence with less than 6 point edorsements.
