Cheapest way of buying a new car these days?
My mum wants to buy a NEW Citroen DS4.
I was wondering what the best way to buy it is these days. i know buying new cars is not very MSE, but i thought there might have been a guide.
so in the absence of such what is the best thing to do. i was thinking about just emailing every Citroen dealer i could find and asking them to quote me, making it clear i would be going with the best price.
then i thought well there is probably a website that does that....

PLEASE NOTEMy advice should be used as guidance only. You should always obtain face to face professional advice before taking any action.0

Thanks i will check them out.
i should add that the local dealer says they can give £5000 off list for taking some kind of finance.
she would ordinarily pay cash but having checked the finance you can take a small amount and pay it off before it charges.0 -
Have you thought about ex-demo cars ?. A former workmate picked-up a 3-month old Megane with 35 miles on the clock for £10k less than book.
By going for ex-demo, you save the £2k new car levy & the 20% VAT. Even on a £15k car, that saves £5k in VAT + NCL.Never Knowingly Understood.

i've had this conversation, ex demo, nearly new. i have given up. it's going to be a new car.
in general i think ex demo is just a way of discounting new cars. like it's not really a demo that has been being used for a long time, it's just a way for moving it through the system so it comes out as not new. it's just like pre-registered.0 -

As soon as I heard that I would run a mile. Sounds as though the cars are secondary to them, it's all about making money on finance.
It is. I'm sure. But this is standard these days. It's all about the finance. There was a time when cash was king. But not anymore. They call it a deposit contribution.
But the net effect is you can put a couple of grand on to finance. Pay it off interest free after a couple of years and get 5 gibbs off the car. Makes no sense to me but what you gonna do?0 -

I am very likely wrong, but isn't it illegal to offer separate prices for cash vs finance purchases? As soon as I heard that I would run a mile. Don't know. the way it is structured is that the manufacturer makes a £5000 deposit contribution. So it is the same price. all very odd.spunko2010 wrote: »I am very likely wrong, but isn't it illegal to offer separate prices for cash vs finance purchases?
I think the plan is that she'll say to the local dealer that she intends to ponce his price around other dealers and if they can beat it by more than a hundred pounds or so then she will buy from them. and not give him the chance to bid again.0
