New 'disposable' credit cards

in Credit cards
Hello all. I don't have credit cards anymore as I ruined my credit rating when I had a longterm illness and couldn't repay my debts.
When I really need a credit card to say book a hotel or flight over the net or buy something I can't get elsewhere on the net, I now use the new breed of disposable credit cards that you buy in a shop like the way you buy credit for a prepaid phone.
However I use a company called 3V and it costs €5.00 (I live in Ireland) to buy the 'card' on top of the amount you want to get on the credit card voucher. Also if you have a small balance left on the voucher after you have paid for what you want, you have to pay €2.50 to get back your leftover balance which is often only a few quid.
Anyone got any ideas how to make these disposable credit cards more economical? It annoys me to see the company keep the balance on my card which is too little to buy anything else over the net.
Thanks.

Use the remainder in a shop. They will normally let you split the balance of your purchase over more than 1 transaction if you ask?0

what about a pre-pay card? That you can keep topping up rather than being disposable?
There was a thread about them on here yesterday I think. Don't know about Ireland, but I'm sure there'll be something similar.0
