Whats effective stuff to use on the lawn, are the cheap ones any use or is it a case of you get what you pay for

I like using Lawn sand at this time of year. It will blacken the moss in days, then green up the remaining grass.

Maxicrop Liquid Mosskiller is also very good, but not good for large lawns as it has to be applied in a watering can.

Sulphate of iron is the old fashioned ingredient.

Raise the blade height of your mower by one or two steps, it is possible to almost eliminate all but the worst moss by allowing the grass to grow rather than be scalped.

Two years of having longer grass reduced the moss in my lawn by 80% and with a mild moss killer it has almost gone.

Longer grass looks greener, is more tolerant of drought and more pleasant to walk on, Brits are so hung up on bowling green lawns we forget grass is a plant and not a floor covering.

As Yorkie1 Sulphate of iron is the old fashioned ingredient, apply with a watering can, stand back and watch the moss turn black almost instantly.
Can also be used as a top dressing on your ericaceous plants.
Bought a box years ago still have lots left, be careful not get it on your concrete paths or paving slabs, it stains them with rust marks.

Lawn Sand is simply Sulphate of Iron mixed with Sulphate of Ammonia so kills moss & greens in one application.

as well as using chemicals, i forked my lawn to create more water drainage holes
it did help my lawn, just have to do it all the time as my lawn is in the shade lots of the day
