The Yorkshire Post is inviting its readers to escape into the county with their camera in search of capturing the best pictures of Yorkshire Rivers.
<!--title ends--> <!--COPY--> All photographs which fit our criteria will be featured on the Yorkshire Post web site and be in with a chance of winning cash prizes. Readers will then be asked to vote online for their favourite photograph week commencing Monday May 14, 2007. Six of the photographs with the most votes will then be put forward to the final where our chosen judging committee will decide the order of the winning photographs.
Yorkshire Water is proud sponsors of the Yorkshire Photography Competition. Rivers play a vital part in forming our region's rich landscape. That's why Yorkshire Water's Riverlife project is a very important part of the work it carries out on the customers' behalf.
Over the last 20 years river water quality has improved dramatically in Yorkshire, thanks to significant progress in the way Yorkshire Water treat waste water. And a healthy river promotes a wider range of plants and animals that live within the river environment. Over the next few years we're investing over £240 million in the region's rivers, improving the quality even further and we aim to put rivers back at the heart of the community.
To support this investment Yorkshire Water is planning a range of local initiatives to encourage people to take more of an interest in their rivers, including a series of river walks along some of the county's most picturesque waterways. It is also working with renowned photographer Ian Beesley on a photographic exhibition which will tour the county over the next few years, bringing rivers - and the people who work on them - to the fore.
