I work voluntarily for a small charity in Teesside called Daisy Chain. We are raising funds to build a respite and resource centre, based around a farm environment, for children with autism and their families. The stage we are at currently is that we have a fully stocked petting farm with pigs, goats, donkeys, sheep, guinea pigs, rabbits and a cow. We are about to start building a day centre and have almost completed a large project on our field which includes sensory gardens, water features, adventure playground and lots more. We hope to have raised enough to build an overnight respite care centre within the next 5 years or so, but it will be a multi-million pound project.

Daisy Chain aims to be a centre of excellence and an example to others to hopefully develop similar projects around the country. Currently we are the only charity who will offer these facilities and, with numbers increasing in autism diagnoses, we will soon be overwhelmed with the demand on our services.
