Most child abuse occurs within families though.

Exactly. I don't think this really has much to do with this lady being a baby sitter.

This woman is clearly just a disgusting person who is to say she didn't treat her own children this way too?

Hi, I hope you rea the rest I my post to see that I supported you starting this thread. First thought was why upset, second thought was thanks for the warning.

    I did. :)

Sorry if I gave you the impression I misunderstood.

I was replying in such a way that if anyone else had the same initial thought, then I would have already addressed this point, iyswim. :)

  • It's remarkable the kind of chances some people are prepared to take with their precious children. I was offered a short-term role as a full-time live-out nanny for an American family with three very young children when I was between jobs once, recommended to them by a friend-of-a-friend. I had no previous experience bar having been a babysitter in my teens. Four weeks later the parents went off abroad for a week on a business trip and didn't even phone home to speak to their darling angels once. At that time they hadn't taken up any formal references, knew almost nothing about me and didn't even have my home-address.

I could have neglected or killed their children and stripped the house of their precious antiques if I had had a mind to. They were lucky to have found me. Someone caring and who took their responsibilities seriously. It could have been so very, very different.

I once child minded for a total stranger. It was a friend of a friend of a friend kind of thing and I ended up minded her little girl for 3 days a week for months.

Her Mum was so desperate for a minder she asked me very little and did no background checks at all. Now, I know I'm a damned good person with kids, but she didn't.

I don't believe everyone is so laid back, but it does happen as proved my experience and yours B&T.

I baby sat for two families when I was 16 - one knew of me beforehand but the other just asked me because we worked at the same place and she'd only met me that day !

Neither of them checked to see if I was responsible and I admit I didn't know what the hell I was doing! They were all fine and I wouldn't have hurt them, but I'd probably have panicked in an emergency and I really wasn't mature enough.

Now I can think of all the potential risks but I didn't at the time - it was just a way of earning a bit of extra money!

My eldest daughter used to babysit for a woman down the road and she initially asked her because she'd seen her passing on her way to school. She knew nothing about my daughter or us.

Again, it was fine and we'd have helped if there had been a problem, but the mother didn't know that, and didn't ask either!

I just can't get my head round that at all - ours have only ever been left with family.

If the parents suspected this was going on why the hell did they allow her to have access to the children again?? Are they slightly depraved??

The older children had obviously told them something was going on so why did they subject their baby to this again???

Maybe the parents need a police telling off too!

More than likely the police need proof not hearsay.
It's better to regret something I did do than to regret something that I didn’t. :EasterBun
  • As a nanny myself I still really just can't believe that parents would leave their children with someone they dont know, and havent even done a basic background check on!!

If your going to employ someone to work in your home make sure it's someone you know or use an agency or website like trustednannies which would background check your candidate for you!! There really is no excuse!

Sorry but this brings out the worse in me I can't comment in detail what I'd like to do to that sorry excuse for a human being - but suffice it to say she wouldn't hit another baby.
