USA holiday - best options?

A group of us (six) are heading out to the USA in March, each taking between £1,500 and £2,000. Would we be best simply getting all the money changed into dollars or would a prepaid card be better? I would estimate that 40% of our transactions will be on machine and 60% would be cash withdrawals, therefore making the FairFX card slightly less agreeable.

With the focus being on cash withdrawals, where do your recommendations lie? There also appears to be little incentive to change all of the currency in one fell swoop - is there anywhere which applies a bonus when changing such large sums?
