Cash Passport charges

Hi,
Has anyone else used the Cash Passport service, and experienced charging using the same currency? I used my card tonight to purchase my evening meal whilst working from Canada, and was charged an exchange rate of 0.833438287154, although my card was already in CAD and I purchased in CAD...
I have put other transactions and these have gone through at 1 as per normal, just tonight's one. Is this due to the fact I only purchased this evening, and is a charge before the transfer is authorized? I can't see anything in the T&C or FAQ stating this
Thanks.
