Looking for a bit of advice.. My husband passed away suddenly may 2006.. We had a joint mortgage and as we were married everything was left to me and our children. There was no need to involve solicitors.. Last sept I was advised to write to lloydstsb to complain about misold PPI's we had taken out over the years.. We had 6 in total.. All in my late husbands name.. I filled in an omnesbus form and sent it to lloydstsb with a death certificate. This was last sept and today have heard they have a payment for me but will not release it until I send in a grants of letter of probate.. I explained that there was no will or probate as everything was left to me.. This was to no avail.. I have now rang a solicitor and they said this costs around £600.. I rang lloydstsb back and they again stated I would need the letter... I'm so frustrated and do not know what to do next.. Please help.

I think you may get better advice posting this in the Reclaim PPI Forum. This has bound to have happened to others.0

Might be worth asking them if they will take a statutory declaration (just a note signed and witnessed by a solicitor) to say you were the sole beneficiary. Much less costly. You can get probate yourself but given its several years it might be tricky to complete the paperwork now.
Did you not get letters of administration or was everything jointly owned?Bossymoo

What about all other assets?
if the PPPI board can't help a grant could still be done quite cheaply if you have the info.
google PA1 and IHT205 these 2 forms are the starting point.
if you have done a PPI claim these should not be too much trouble.0 -
Everything automatically just came to me.. Was no need to involve a solicitor.. Things went kind of smoothly afterwards. Which was a good thing0

How much is the PPI claim?
The application for Letters of Administration would not be too complicated and would not need to cost £600. The Soljcitor usually has to charge a minimum normally about £500 but there are other Organisations who could do it cheaper. With the help of people on here you could even do it yourself and then the only cost would be the Probate Court fee.0 -
There are 5 loans that had PPI's on that I have complained were mis sold.. Lloydstsb stated there is an amount to be paid to me but would not disclose how much until I provided the letters of administration.. And when I rang back after speaking to a solicitor to complain that I couldn't understand why I had now to go through all this now they said there was no other way of the Money being released..0

You need at least an estimated figure as an amount has to be included in the value of the estate and has to be included in the application and the forms mentioned earlier in the thread. Tell tbem you need a figure so you can apply for the Grant, even if its not exact.0

Thanks will do.. Going to ring them on Monday.. Will ask firstly if they will accept a statutory declaration.. Fingers crossed they will but I doubt it..0
