Ebay (slightly worried question)

I just bought a fairly expensive item from an ebay seller with a 100% feedback.

The camera item is described as new but it did not come with a manufacturers warranty, when I asked why I was told WE (the seller) guarantee it for 12 months:question:

  • Hi,

Manufacturer warranties are not always transferable, it is up to the manufacturer - could contact them and ask?

The stock could have been sold on from one business to another or it could be a customer return or display model, any of these or many other reasons why it is new but without a mfr warranty.

Hopefully the price justified the loss of a manufacturer warranty?

    Gary.
  • Its probably grey market (as in imported from another country and taking advantage of cheaper prices / exchange rates). You always run the risk with grey market goods, after the seller's warranty runs out you can't really expect it to be serviced by the company in the UK.

Unless it's a proper shop with an address, phone number etc that happen to trade on eBay, there's nothing to stop the seller shutting down their account and disappearing. Even if it's a shop there's nothing to stop them doing a Jessops and going into administration.

If having a manufacturers' warranty is important to you and you haven't paid significantly less on eBay than you would from a known store (whether online or in person) then you might consider returning the item (if possible) and purchasing it elsewhere.

I only expensive goods on eBay if I'm getting them significantly cheaper/they're not available elsewhere and very much with the knowledge that once you've accepted the goods there's not much you can do if down the line they break.

I always deals with the SELLER for warranty issues (first 12 months).

Never dealt with a manufacturer in my life.
