If i'm not mistaken the 6630 isn't unlockable via any free solutions and would require the network to unlock it - did Orange not advise you of this when you opted to go to S.A.? I'd give them a call and suggest unlocking that for them but methinks that it's going to cost to get the unlock code for the handset...sorry! :(

Also as your IN SA it'll cost you a bit to call Orange. :(

Nokia 3G handsets have RSA protection on their handsets in the same way that Sony Ericsson do. In other words, it's not likely (and not advised) to use any free locker on the phone till a stable solution is out.

My advice: pick up a sim in S.A. while you are out there to which the network operates at 1800 Mhz (GSM) and just use up the credit on there instead - that way you're using your handset and not denting your phone bill with Orange UK.

    HTH.

as others have said there is no solution yet for the 6630 - whether or not operators can unlock them or not is another matter.

Orange should be able to unlock the handset for you, it's just the case of them deciding whether you should pay or not. I'd argue the case that (should you have been with them for a long time) that other networks (such as vodafone) will unlock the phone if you wish to go abroad (which what happened with my S700i) and that on principle as you'll be using Orange abroad that they'll be getting commission off you from using their services abroad. If that doesn't work then they are mean. :)

I work for Orange and basically they will charge you £20 for the unlocking and it can take up to 10 working days.

You need to be the account holder, ie. you took the phone out in your name.

Orange are as likely to unlock it for free as i am likely to be the next pope :o

If the original poster buys a SIM in South Africa to put in the phone (if it gets unlocked) then they won't be using Orange abroad so Orange will gain nothing from it... surely the only way Orange would gain from this is if the original poster was using an Orange SIM (and roaming was activated), in which case the phone wouldn't need to be unlocked.

can work in reverse as well, saying that you'd rather use S.A. based networks as orange charge too much (and hence need unlocking) would mean that it's either losing out on your potential cash... or unlocking and having the person use Orange. Naturally the original poster *may* be able to use Orange however if he's got the phone unlocked he doesn't *have* to use Orange.... :) contradictions ahoy i know... but give me chance, i'm having a long day at work here ;)
