How to Remove: Concrete Clothes Line Posts

Hi
I have 2 large concrete clothes posts in the back garden that I want to move to make way for new garden decking.
What's the best way to remove these posts, bearing in mind that they are cemented in the ground?

It seems to me that you have three choices. You can hopefully 'rock' them until they are loose enough to lift out. You can crack through the post near the base and then use an angle grinder to cut through the steel rod in the middle.
The third option is to get yourself on the blister end of a spade and dig them out in their entirety, which, incidentally, is what we ended up doing. One advantage of digging ours out was that we were able to re-use the posts and placed them in another part of the garden.0 -
Yeah I dug around and then rocked mine out. I seem to remember it being quite hard work!0

Lots of digging, rocking, and swearing. It's hard work. Make sure you have a beer handy for when you have finished.0

Get a strong hammer and a cold chisel, some safety goggles and break it down to ground level. If you are decking over fine, if not break bits to just under ground level, grass/soild will cover up soon.0

Ive just got some concrete posts out of my front garden, I used one of my friends De-walt 12kilo drill with a Breaker bit on ,Its a bit heavybut made easy work of breaking through the concrete. It's nice to be Important

Dig around them then use a Land Rover and a strong rope to puss them out - if you have a spade
If not, I assume that the decking is going to go over the top of the earth that they are in? If so, just break them just above the surface then you can use a rocking motion between 2 of you to fracture the steel reinforcing bars. An angle grinder or a hacksaw will at least get you started, even if you don't finish the job with these.Behind every great man is a good womanBeside this ordinary man is a great woman£2 savings jar - now at £3.42:rotfl:0 -
Pop down to your local chav hangout and surreptitiously drop a map of your garden with strategically placed crosses on it identifying your secret stash of weed, jobs a good-un.:rotfl:Four guns yet only one trigger prepare for a volley.Together we can make a difference.0

If they dont rock out, use a 9" grinder. You can just cut it off as you are decking over the top.
Thats the quickest method i would say.
Or even a 4.5" if you have one, just cut from all four sides, then push it over to crack the remaining central section. Then chop the rest or the rebar when you can get to it.
Thats the quickest method.0
