Help! I believe I've been conned by a guy online and I threatened legal action! ??

Well the only details I have is his name and address which is correct as I've found him on 192.com. Would you send him a letter if you were in my situation?
You've got nothing to lose (except the cost of postage) by sending him a letter before action.
As I said above, I'm not sure how the court would view it with the only evidence being emails. Might be worth printing everything off (including the eBay ad if you can still view it) and seeing if you can find a solicitor who will offer 30mins free advice.0 -
Yes the only evidence is the emails and the paypal invoices. He still has an ebay account but isn't selling on it at the moment. Will send a letter and patiently await a reply. This will be fun writing it lol0

have you got the link to the ebay ad?0

joe585 i think when all this is over you need to take a step back and have a long hard look at how trusting/gullible you are when you're on the internet i'm not going to kick you when you're down just saying that handing over that sort of money to a stranger on the internet is bordering on lunacy.
you need to be more careful in future just some friendly advice.

No the link has expired on Ebay. Yes Paul as they say we live and learn and I've learned the hard way!0

i know you have no good being too trusting to be honest particularly when using the internet hope it all works out for you anyway

The money is gone, however if he has agreed to pay you back via email then that is all the evidence you would need to win in a small claims court. getting the CCJ paid though is a different matter.0

As said, it does scream ponzi scheme - so if you can do some research on his business activities to prove this you may be able to bring criminal charges. Although it could be hard to prove this and encourage the police to get involved, the mere threat may be enough to tickle his feathers.0

I'm sorry, but I've got to say this - what the hell was going through your mind when you pushed send on that PayPal transaction and do you regularly reply to African diplomats asking for your help?
On a serious note, what sort of return was this guy offering you for your 1000?0
