Fitting a new toilet and basin

Hello,

I was wondering peoples thoughts on whether it is a relatively easy task for an amteur DIYer to fit a new toilet and basin?

Is this something worth 'giving a good go' or should I bite the bullet and pay for a plumber to fit them?

There is existing pipework so I should in theory just have to turn the water supply off, cap the pipes, remove the old basin and toilet and fit the new 1s, modifying the pipework to fit if necessary?

Thanks

Peter

Yes if competent DIYer go for it. Plenty youtube / instructions on net.
You will need to modify pipework as all are different.

There are some good "how to" demonstrations on You Tube. It usually isn't hard to fit a loo if your exit pipe matches your soil pipe (the one that goes through the wall) and you use one of the push in fittings to connect the two. I've fitted a few and rarely had a problem. The last problem was due to the soil pipe being too long and I had to saw it off which wasn't easy in the tight space where it was.
Watch the videos and you should be able to decide for yourself if your DIY skills are up to it or not.

There is no reason whatsoever why you shouldn't attempt this yourself. However you probably need to weigh up the cost to you (yes there will be one) of the hours you will invest in the project - estimate it then double it and multiply by the net hourly rate you get from work - compared with the cost of hiring someone in for a day to do it for you.

The downside to hiring someone in is that you will not get the sense of satisfaction and fulfillment you would by doing it yourself.
