Monday 21st January - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :D

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning everyone. Still plenty of snow around this morning, but thankfully it isn't snowing just now.

Today's weigh in showed a 5lb loss since last Monday :j Although I had been good with my eating and exercise most of the week, I did have a bit of a blow out on Friday so this was far better than I had expected.

Today I have/will
  • Check online banking
  • Make use of free toiletries in the shower
  • Take lunch with me to work (made a salad to go with some chicken left over from yesterday's roast)
  • Walk to station then rail pass to work
  • Free coffee/water at work
  • Read free paper on train
  • Meals from stores
  • Have a NSD
  • Charge phones at work
Think that's about it for now. Have a great Monday everyone
Debt free since December 2015. It can be done

    Morning all!

I've been AWOL for a few days, sorry :o

Guy was here plastering our whole hall and he done the bathroom ceiling, now the house is needing a massive clean :( All I've been doing is sweeping and mopping, hoovering and dusting, need to do it again today.

I'm off work today and tomorrow, it's my birthday tomorrow and I always take it off work. Who wants to work on their birthday :A

    So, plans for today.

Check banking. I'm in the overdraft, need to work out how bad it is :o
Nsd, don't need a single thing!
    Swagbucks, onepoll, competitions boards
Need to make a start on doing a full stocktake of the kitchen

    X
Can't think of anything smart to put here...
  • Hello all, work at 1300 - 2300 for me.

    So far today:
    Visited chiropractor for treatment
    Checked bank
Walked past SM WITHOUT going in to buy anything
Prepared lunch ( left over casserole from slow cooker )
    Eaten breakfast
Spends today will consist of fuel as five shifts this week and commute 80 miles each shift.

Washing machine has been broken ( not spinning or draining) so last night I took the filter pump to bits and cleared it and this morning asked lodger to put it back together and put a wash on to see if it works ( trying to avoid calling out expensive repair man)

Made dental apps for me and DD

Time to get ready for work I think, need to leave in under an hour and get fuel en route

Have a good day one and all

    Much love

    Hello Snowy people,
Today shaping up to be a peaceful NSD. Quite a careful weekend too, as only bought essentials on Sat from my monthly allowance (couldn't go for shopping trip as roads bad, which meant I wasn't tempted)...also I found the exact wool I needed in a charity shop. Whooo-hooo! Sun - v cheap day...only bought a newspaper.....in fact, went halves with partner!). Went to local park for long snowy walk & took sandwiches & flask to avoid paying £12 for lunch. (Eaten in 4 ins of snow!!)
    Today:
    -All meals from stores.
-No downstairs heating on this morning, just wearing lots of clothes.
-Aiming to have a really good knitting afternoon to try & get loads more blanket squares knitted (nearly all wool from stash, yay!)

Karb: Hello. Well done on your weigh-in. 5lbs is a really great amount for a week. I weigh in first thing Saturdays & lost 4lbs, but mine's not 'new weight' yet....am still getting off the 10lbs I put back on over Christmas (why did I make so many little sausage pies?!) I'm finding that the same skills & mentality that helped with busting our debts is helping with sticking to the BIG weightloss project. Good luck with your dieting. It's great when the scales show a good result, isn't it?
That's it for today. 4 ins more snow overnight & only just stopped so I'm staying in.
    Cheers,

  • Hey all,

Thanks to Karb for starting the thread off

Thank you to everyone sending me hugs and get well wishes. Thought I was ok yesterday, but feel funny again now I'm back in work. Starting to wonder if illness could have been/is stress related?

Anyhoo, spoke to OH about the debt repayment/car mot/pay day moving/car insurance pile up and have decided on the following plan of action:

Only pay minimum off cc for next few months (until pile up over). Min is £35 and is 0% for a little while longer (don't actually know when it runs out though :o think it's April)

During this time, stockpile all extra cash that would have gone off cc towards MOT (poss repairs/tyres etc), month's rent in hand because of pay day move (means will not have to borrow off dad) and car insurance (would have to have paid on card as usually about £200 dearer to pay monthly!)

I estimate that as long as the MOT does not total more than £500, all these costs can be met on time with approx £100 left over.

Although this does not make nice viewing on my spreadsheet, I think it is the best way forward without bobbing in and out of debt and worrying. However if anyone has a better plan I am very happy to hear it!

So today I will try to be good by:

Keeping heating off if poss. Did cave in yesterday evening

Go to supermarket to buy sugar to finish marmelade. Also reboil first batch as it didn't set :( (first non-setting jam failure)

Also buy lunch (didn't make any this moring because felt quite sick and thought of looking at food not good)

    Check online banking

    Tweak spreadsheet to match plan

Think that's me. Have a good one guys xx
