Should I get a credit card?

Recently I've been getting phone calls from PPI claimback companies asking if I've ever had a credit card or loan etc...I feel a bit of a freak when I say no to all their questions. I don't think they believe me!!

I have never borrowed money except for my student loan. Credit cards and loans make me nervous, I would hate to be in debt. I do realise that I've been very lucky so far to be able to live within my means! But I've also been very careful with my money.

I don't need a credit card but now I've graduated and been in work for 3 years or so, should I get a credit card and pay it off promptly every month in order to get a good credit score for the future?

  • Yes - it will help to build a credit history, which will be very valuable in the future. Set up a DD for full payment to avoid making a mistake.
