How to improve credit rating...

Hi everyone,

I know it's an age old question, but how do you improve your credit score?

Pro's
-I earn 42k
-I pay CC#1 in full every month and have done so since account opened (Nov 2011)
- I pay CC#2 well over the minimum.
- Never missed payment on mobile account - 8 years
- Never missed payment on car accounts - 8 years
- Pay NEXT account in full and have done so since account opened (Nov 2011)

Con's
- I have only been registered at this address since Jun 2012
- I changed employment in June 2011 and again in Jan 2013 (promotions in same industry)
- I have a default registed from 2008
- I have 1 late payment registered in June 2012

Is my history really so bad? I was recently knocked back for a CC for a balance transfer offer, and again tonight for a joint loan with my partner. He was then accepted on his own.

I know I have the default registered, but I've had credit offered even after this?

Equifax have also just said my score is 469 - apparently considered excellent by most lenders and more likely to be accepted?!

Help!

  • Its down to numbers when you apply for CCs sometimes there is no reason that we can fathom. I would leave applying for credit for about 6 months at least and maybe try again. The default will be off your credit file next year sometime so its already classed as old, is it settled yet if not you could try and settle it that would help.

Thank you - the default was settled in 2008.

It shows I have a dormant CC account so will phone to get that closed.

My partner has taken out a car loan for me so my car finance will soon be settled and off my account too.

  • Check experian and call credit too to see if there is anything on there, sometimes companies dont report at the same time to the CRAs happened to me with a defaulted debt, came off my experian report but the company hadnt put the right date on my equifax so it was stuck there.
