Told I owe Money to Kwik Fit

I just received a letter saying I owed £186 for a debt to Kwik fit from and address in London from 2007. I have never used Kwik fit and have never lived at the address that was provided (actually I was only given a postcode).
I phoned the company Buchannan Clark & Wells and told them they had the wrong man that I have lived in Gainsborough for the last 19 years. They said that I must contact Experian as they gave them the information, I asked them not to send anymore letters demanding money. So I phoned experian and was told I had to register with them to find out if they had given the information to Buchannan I said I didnt want to but the lady said that was the only way !!! but the registration was free for 30 days. So I complained but registered then to be told i had to wait for 5 days for a pin. I have emailed both Buchanan and Experian and complained saying they have the wrong information. Is this a scam to get you to join experian or if they have the wrong information how do I prove it ??

You can get a statutory report from each of the agencies for £2. No need to join Experian/Equifax.

But Noddle is free if you want to sign up and check them.

the ICO website has details of how to complain if they do not remove incorrect data.
