lost prepaid funeral details

Hi,
can anyone tell me how to go about searching for details on a prepaid funeral plan. My m-i-l bought one about 1974/5 from the Co-op, but we are unable to locate the certificate. I have tried phoning the funeral department, the funeral care plan and co-op insurance. But they all say that there are no records as this was pre computerisation. I have stated her full name and address including post code to no avail. Do I just give up and we try to find the £3k needed or has anyone got any thoughts on how to proceed further.

I know it is before their time, but these people may have some idea http://www.napfp.co.uk/
Could it be detailed on her will?:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0 -
I think you need to contact a solicitor because no company can use the excuse its pre computerisation as a defence for not keeping records of who has paid for what.

Has anyone other than your mum ever had sight of the certificate?
Not saying this has happened, but sometimes people tell their family they've bought a funeral plan but didn't......................I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -

I hesitate to recommend this as pretty much every complaint means an automatic fine of around £500 - peanuts to the Coop but not small beer to small firms. And fairness to the provider doesn't come into it, so do bear that in mind when complaining - even a tentative enquiry written down at their end counts as a complaint, and (I believe) there is serious motivation on behalf of the staff to grow the number of complaints.
They have added 1,000 staff in a year, so Regulation is the industry to be in, as long as you don't care about justice - complaining will cost you nothing (even if you are lying in a fraudulent attempt to get compo) but every complaint counts against the company or financial adviser.
Sounds like the Coop deserve it though!0
