Bankruptcy now? After four years of burying our heads

In 2009 we were ready to go through BR having moved into rented accommodation and our home repossessed shortly afterwards. My OH then lost his job 3rd time in 3 years and the funds we had put aside for BR fees got used on daily living costs. Back on our feet in 2010 OH employed my father suddenly died of a massive blood clot to the brain. Three months later my mum was diagnosed with terminal cancer and died six months later of an aggressive painful cancer. We have moved 4 times since July 2008 and seemed to have avoided any debtors contacts having buried our heads and tried to get through a horrible 4 year period. We are still raw from our grief but want to move forward with our lives and look towards the children's future. We are not sure what to do we know the debts are over 7 years old all unsecured and the mortgage default approx 3 years. We have had a few letters trickle through asking for immediate contact and action but we have just buried our heads. We do not have the lump sum to go BR and hoped that someone would do that from our debtors but I guess we have no assets or capital so why would they. Your advice and help would be really appreciated, I know when we lost our house we had some great support and guidance
