Claiming for 1st Class Recorded undelivered?

Hi all,
I posted something to a customer on 02/01, the Track and Trace system hasn't updated from the 'this item was posted at [Post office] on 02/01' .
Is this enough evidence to claim for it as lost in the post on it's own? As I have an unresponsive buyer and I doubt I'll be able to get them to sign and return a declaration of non-receipt?
Kind Regards,
Chris

If the item is actually lost and has been reported so by buyer then yes you can make the normal claim after 15 working days . Not all buyers are contacted about lost items, so if buyer has gone quiet after his refund then just hope he won't be asked to confirm loss.
This assumes the item was allowable and below the standard mail compensation limit of course.
If you mean it hasn't been reported as being lost and just hasn't updated (which in many aeras is usual) then you can claim back the 95p cost of the recorded.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. Well the item was sold for £60, and although I know the compensation limit is £46 or so, I assumed I could at least claim the value UP TO £46, or the limit?
The buyer has not updated anything, me nor royal mail, but it's been almost 2 weeks and I can claim in the next few days...0 -

You can't claim for loss if you don't know it is lost. Recorded in many areas *never* updates, I don't recall the last time I signed for a recorded item here, and I get a few a week.
If buyer hasn't reported loss then just assume it has arrived safely and do nothing.I’m a Forum Ambassador and I support the Forum Team on the eBay, Auctions, Car Boot & Jumble Sales, Boost Your Income, Praise, Vents & Warnings, Overseas Holidays & Travel Planning , UK Holidays, Days Out & Entertainments boards. If Royal Mail write to your buyer and they reply to say they've got the parcel how will that look?
Once you've posted something, unless the buyer gets in touch, assume all is well but you certainly can't claim a loss without confirmation of it.In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -
You could still claim for not getting a signature though, I get 6x1st class stamps every time that happens0

The trouble is, many of these companies use a woefully inadeqaute tracking system, which people buy into when sending things, hoping that it will give them piece of mind if it comes to a dispute.
If the companies that have these systems were to update them on a regular basis, and let's face it, it isn't rocket science, then they might get a fraction of the complaints about them. That's my mutt in the picture above.0 -

thing is
the tracking* system works fine
its down to the staff really
*bearing in mind recordeds aren't tracked as such0 -

I disagree
If a recorded doesnt track
I would expect the default assumption to be it hasnt arrived
Its down to RM to address the failings of the recorded system0 -

But, as I'm sure you know, that isn't Royal Mail's default assumption as they may write to the buyer regardless and the claims team mentioned they had one seller claiming for loss on every parcel that wasn't signed for, needless to say that person isn't able to make claims like this any longer.
It would also throw a spanner in the old Recorded Delivery is a waste of money argument as sending everything RD and then claiming a loss on around 20% of those that don't get a signature would be extremely profitable, problem is I just can't see Royal Mail paying out for those 8000 odd loss claims every year...In the game of chess you can never let your adversary see your pieces0 -

yes but thats down to RM
IMO the OP doesnt 'need' confirmation of non receipt to claim
The more claims, the more likely RM will flag up the failings to the delivery offices
thats how RM 'manages'
something flags up,those at the top get a hard on about it for a while
then they move onto something else
So it needs to be kept in their line of sight0
