High Street camera retailer Jessops is to shut all of its stores, resulting in the loss of about 1,370 jobs.
Administrator PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC), appointed this week, said all 187 stores in the UK would shut at the end of trading on Friday.
More jobs would be lost at the head office in Leicester, it added.

Nonsense, it's the internet and camera phones that have done for Jessops. Not all retailers are in trouble. Tesco had the best Xmas for years. The ones with a viable business model will survive and the ones who do not may falter. In the long run everyone is better off that way.No-one would remember the Good Samaritan if he'd only had good intentions. He had money as well.
The problem with socialism is that eventually you run out of other people's money.

I've never shopped in Jessops. Always used a local independent instead.
Maybe we need the decline of the chains. To allow new entrants to emerge.0 -

These are the new entrants...its not all the leading chains.
Can you really knock it...when you find something £50 cheaper..
How many times have we said years ago...If only I'd gone there it would have saved me a few bob...

Retailers need to move with the times to survive, sticking to traditional models will not work against internet sales, yet many seem to carry on and hope for the best0

I can only see the giant retailers becoming ever bigger. Tesco/Asda/et al selling clothes; electronics; lease cars; optical services. This sort of thing would have been unthinkable a generation back.
Will there come a day when they ARE the shopping experience for many?0 -
Lets be honest, not so many years ago...
Customers were all suckers!
You all know it was true.
In the modern day only a complete mug would buy a product from place A, when Place B could sell it for less.
The sooner these backward shops give up the ghost the better.
H.M.V are still telling themselves and their staff that they will get stronger....
Well lets just see.
When was the last time you bought anything from them.
If someone posted on THIS VERY SITE!!!
"Hey guys I am gonna buy X from Jessops, HMV or any other 70's style shop".
Everyone would say NO! look here and here instead.
We need to do better we need to break those unwilling to flow with the modern times.:A:jLibertas Supra Omnia:j:A0 -
Price alone is not the only consideration better to pay a few pound extra and get what you really want than end up with something not suitable.
When buying things like Cameras I like to try before I buy but unfortunately I think that is something I won't be able to in the future.

Surprised it lasted as long as it did. Hideously overpriced stock being flogged by indifferent unknowledgeable staff. Glad to see the back of them.poppy100

For any major brand camera there are tons of in-depth professional reviews on the internet that will give you far more information than you will get from taking a few snaps in the store.poppy100
