Thursday 10th January - What small DFW things will you do today?

When we start out on the DFW trail we do loads of "big stuff" that makes quite a difference to our situation. These include having our lightbulb moment, cutting up the credit cards and cancelling Sky and the gym.

But once we have done the bigger stuff, we often feel that we are not making the same amount of progress, when in fact the small steps are helping us form good financial habits and helping us get closer everyday to staying in control and becoming debt free, or staying debt free.

Examples could be hanging washing out instead of using the tumble dryer or leaving your purse/wallet at home to avoid the risk of spending. :D

So be proud of those small steps, they really are important. :money:

Morning everyone. Thanks lpp for starting us off

It seems that I start every day with a rant too, lpp. I'd arranged for DS to have an interview at my workplace e yesterday, as he reckons he's been applying for loads of stuff without success.

To cut a long story short, he's 18, normally lives in London with my ex, didn't work hard enough at his a-levels and didn't get the grades he needed for University, but then instead of trying to sort out going back to re-sit or looking for a different university or course that he could get into he just left everything to drift and ended up with nothing. He ended up just sitting at home dossing all day, to the point where his Mam asked me to have him. He seems to be stuck in the same cycle here, so I pulled a few strings to get him an interview even though he has absolutely nothing on his cv.

Anyway, having gone out and bought him a new suit, shirt, tie and shoes, money I can't really afford, he simply didn't turn up to his interview, and then lied about his reasons. It's bad enough that he did it to any potential employer, but especially one where I am a manager and have gone out on a limb to get him this. He's already in my bad books for flooding the house on Monday and lying about that, so this just about takes the biscuit at the moment.

Anyway, I think its just all the normal stuff from me today. Should be a NSD too, fingers crossed

Hello, I know it's a bit late in the day, but I hope it's OK for me to join in? My husband is always telling me I need to be more positive and having lurked on these boards for a couple of weeks, I thought this seemed like a nice positive thread to start off with. My list for today is quite short, but I hope to do more tomorrow:

Slice lemons up and put in freezer to be used in drinks at later date otherwise they will be wasted

Welcome stressedbear! Lovely to have you on board. This is a lovely thread to join as we're all very supportive and pretty fabulous!

Thanks for the idea re the sliced lemons!

    My list for today:

    * ch[STRIKE]eck banking[/STRIKE]
    * [STRIKE]pay a bill & update journal [/STRIKE]

sounds like he's having a hard time of launching into his life Karb, so frustrating for you! do you have any idea what is stopping him? Is it lack of confidence? Having a 19 year old who can't seem to do anything unless you are there doing it with them is so frustrating I know! x

    Hi there everyone

    Shhh, I’m ‘working’ ;)

    So, here’s me:

    - Checked banking
    - Saw that CC#1 has come down from the £900-bracket to the £800-bracket… so life is getting better… Just another £884 to go on that one :p
    - Emailed friends back – not call
    - Breakfast – cereal that was on offer – not fussy
    - Lunch – from home, no sandwich shop for me
    - Dinner – sausage, mash and peas – looking forward to it :)
    - Driving OH to training tonight & picking him up – he’s not going to the pub afterwards
    - Go shopping when I drop off OH – make a meal-plan list beforehand – just another 2 weeks til payday…
    - Cross my fingers that I’ll get my bonus confirmed – end of Feb cannot come quick enough!!
    - Marking work I didn’t do yesterday
    - Take game back for refund – xmas pressie for nephew that I couldn’t give him in the end.
    - Enjoying free biscuits in work :p

This does seem like a friendly & welcoming thread of people. Thank-you. I think posting on here regularly will keep me focussed on not slipping back into my old ways. We don't have any debt these days, but we did overpsend our income last year, which means that if we hadn't had a 'cushion', we'd have been into overdraft. So today, I have:
-Ordered my £30 Debenhams voucher from Toluna Surveys.
-Put dough prog on breadmaker for making pizza & bread rolls this afternoon.
-Made lunch from the leftover soup made yesterday.
-Found Sainsbury's voucher for £12 off a £60 online shop for new users. Not really bothered about online grocery shops as a rule, but if I can use in conjunction with our Nectar points, that could be a good saving.
-Made list for store cupboard stock up in Aldi this weekend as there's certain good stuff I always get from there now.
-Been down the garden to see if there's any salad left that's useable after all the winter rain......looks like I can get at least a couple of good picks of rocket & spicy mixed leaves. Also found more windfall apples I'd missed. I'll do something with those.
-Meal plans to finish, as didn't get them all done the other day.
-Magazine subscription to send for as reduces cost, plus there's a free book with it I'd planned to buy.
That's it for today....still got the lergy so not planning to go too mad!

    Hi everyone,

    Thanks for starting us LPP.
Karb - So sorry to hear your DS let you down like that! I would be so mad, it's one thing to mess up a bit but to not even attend the interview is terrible. Hope you manage to get through to him.
La e - Thanks for the link last night, I will check that out this evening, & well done for getting your CC down :j

    Today I have/will:-
    • Made use of free water & milk at work
    • Stupidly forgot my lunch...but as a bonus I managed to get a free lunch due to the leftovers from a meeting & snacks from a colleague's birthday :j
    • Popping to the travel agents in a min just to see if they can beat the price I've seen online for DH's birthday trip
    • Dinner from meal plan hopefully, depends if we can get into the kitchen or not later!!
    • Log calories using free app
    • Check postcode lottery
    • Charging phone at work
    • Heating off as long as possible & on low when needed, lots of layers on to keep warm.
    • Check online banking
    • Check for new mystery shopping opportunities
    • Enter some comps
    • Do some decluttering & flylady
    • Need to find all my receipts & enter them into Mr T's price promise
    • Need to fess up on the GC thread
    • Check Gumtree
