CCCS early payments has messed up all my payment due by dates!

The CCCS paid everyone 6 days early due to Christmas, which means many of my creditors had 2 monthly payments in the 1 statement month. This means that the likes of Barclaycard, MBNA won't get anything this month as they got it early last month.

Im not sure what route to take with this as i really don't fancy Barclay charging me £12 late payment through no fault of my own, they are being a pain as it is still charging interest 6 yrs alone this plan.

What would you recommend? Contacting CCCS or trying to pull together the extra minimum payments and pay direct through the creditors? Never had to do this before.

    Hi Beth,

We make payments slightly earlier in December to make sure creditors have time to process that month's payment in between the Christmas bank holidays. There's no reason you should incur missed payment charges, in fact we send the money early to avoid people getting late payment charges.

If you've any concerns about your DMP you can give our aftercare team a call and they'll go through it with you.

    Kind regards

    James

Thank you James, I understand why CCCS would pay early, but im more worried about Barclaycard, it says on the statement i got today that it should be paid by 21st, But no payments will get to them within that statement time as it will be the 27th.

I was just wondering whether it was worth me calling Barclaycard up, Or just leave it and hope for the best :) My MBNA is now with Moorgate and i feel they won't be as difficult with this issue though.

Problem is everytime i call Barclaycard they try their hardest to get me to pay an extra payment to them, even though i have never done this is the 6yrs being with a DMP, so thats why im reluctant to phone them unless its 100% needed.

    Thanks again.

    Hi Beth,

Provided you make your January payment on time there shouldn't be a problem, so you don't need to call them. If you check back on your Barclaycard statements it will have been the same this time last year, so that should confirm things.

Feel free to give us a call though if it's worrying you.

    Regards

    James

Thank you James, I will leave it as it is then :) Just worried me when i realised that the dates were before the next payment.

    Thanks again for reassuring me.
  • Hi Guys

This happens to me at least twice a year with a creditor on my StepChange DMP that changes the statement date monthly, due to the fact that payments become due every 28 days rather than a set date of say 25th monthly.

It has caused me that much grief in the past that as wrong as it is I now try to find the funds to make an extra payment to keep this creditor onside, as the extra payment is significantly less than the amount of interest that they will start to add to my account should I fail to make my reduced repayment on time.

I know StepChange will say that you shouldn't do this but if it means keeping your DMP on track and saving you a load of hassle having to contact your creditors then I would just make an extra payment if you can afford to do so. If you can't then give the creditor a call and explain what has happened, some will be fine and reset your plan others may not be so helpfull, like a certain catalogue company where TV programmes are recorded ;)
