Compensated if no signature on delivery?

I have been looking at the parcel sending websites like Parcel Monkey and interparcel. I get very cheap quotes for companies like Yodel, but I'm wondering if the service is tracked when purchased through those webites, and what happens if they fail to get the recipients signature on delivery?
I am returning an ebay item, but trying to keep the costs low. I'm thinking I might end up with the seller claiming not to have received the returned item. If I do I will lose money, but I guess these companies are not offering compensation or have some nasty small print, which is not available on those websites.

I'd send through parcel2go so that you have parcel tracking information and it tells you when delivered. They have cheap options that take a bit longer but that is what I would do. Others may advise better but I'd go with them.
And if its not your fault as to why you are returning it they should reimburse your postage costs.0 -
OK, so it's offering me a service with Yodel. Are you saying that if you send with Parcel2go you will always get tracking and a signature?? I'm thinking is there a possibility of this not happening with Yodel?
Maybe they will not get a signature and leave the item outside the door or something? That is what I am concerned with.0 -
I've used City Link via Interparcel before and had no problems with tracking and delivery.0

I'd use myhermes, as it's the cheapest and you always get tracking which updates to delivered even if you don't pay the extra £1 for a sig.
As long as it states delivered you will get your money back.0 -
MyHermes only collects up to 15kg. My parcel is over 20kg.
Citylink failed to collect my parcel last week on Friday. I had ordered through Parcelmonkey. So this has all be an ongoing disaster.
I might just go with Yodel. I tried to ring them up to find out what would happen if there was no signature taken by their driver, but the customer service person told me she could only answer queries from account holders.0 -
You wouldn't get compensated for them not getting a signature. As that isn't always a viable option (Unless you choose myhermes who charge extra You'd get the £1.18 back) - They don't guarrentee signature on delivery.
If it goes missing in transit, EG the last tracking event was the parcel was at the hub, The parcel broker/courier would pay out to the agreed maximum (So on parcel2go if you get standard insurance which is included for £50 that's all they would pay). So you would need to insure it to the items value.0
