Brand New Year Brand New DMP

Hi,
Decided its time to create a diary for myself to keep myself going through my new DMP which starts January 2013.
I have been a long time lurker on this board and my LBM was November 2011 with around £32K of debts. After a lot of budgeting and a very welcome PPI payment I am now down to just over £19K. But family circumstances have changed (both my DDs have both left home over the past few months:() and not having a rise over the past five years and bills going up I decided I could struggle along no longer.
I have been in debt for over 20 years, and have consolidated and consolidated and consolidated etc etc etc until I have reached the end of the line.
Its time to deal with my debts properly so I have set up a DMP with Step Change and my first payment comes out of my shiny new Bank account on 10th January. I have had three letters from Cap One, MBNA and Next confirming they are happy with the payments and have stopped interest. I am still waiting to hear from Very (Shop Direct) and First Direct. My bank has my overdraft and a loan, but they have only just be notified as I had to make sure my December wage went in before Step Change would notify them.
Anyway I have a large pile of ironing with my name on it so hope everyone has a great New Years Eve and a happy 2013 with less debt than 2012.

Hi Millymolly22,
I had a chat with StepChange this afternoon after finally facing up to facts! After going through I&E and saying my debts aloud to someone (saying them aloud made them real and horrifying which actually made me cry down the phone for a while!) I think I'm on the right track. It's scary but at the same time feels good to take positive action.
Best of luck with your DMP in 2013 (and your ironing!)Aniceglassofred0 -
Thanks Aniceglassofred (what an amazing name!)
I know how you feel instead of jumping head first into another loan me and my OH discussed it over a weekend and realised that something positive needed to be done to reduce the debt, however hard it may seem.
Ironing done, trying to enjoy NYE but will be glad when its all over and the new year begins.
My only resolution this year is that by next Christmas any vouchers/money I receive will be spent on ME and not on birthdays presents for other people on January

I have been trying to sort out by DDs so they don't come out all at once and spread them over the month. Anyway changed by BT DD to 20th instead of 1st, but probably because of Xmas, they have not changed it and it has been taken out of my Bank today:mad:
Thats cocked me up a bit, but hopefully if I watch our food spending next week I should be ok.
One step forward two steps back !!!0
